Epiphany 2007
Dear Prospective Candidate for our "Second Minister" Position:
You will not find a more wonderful church than this one, or a better place in
which to develop one's ministry than First Parish Weston. If you are interested
in being part of the life of a dynamic liberal Christian church, this may be the
spot for you. Let me offer a few thoughts on what I hope we will find:
Someone who will be a specialist, not a generalist. Although we want a person
with all the necessary pastoral skills and abilities, this position needs
someone who can target some specific areas with intentionality and energy.
Someone to help us strengthen our outreach & justice concerns so that we might
be the social conscience of Weston. We want an energetic advocate who will be
the ministerial liaison and inspiration to our Outreach committee, and will
organize one or two social justice events annually.
Someone to help us strengthen lifespan faith development. We want a creative,
family-friendly person, who enjoys working with children, to be the ministerial
liaison and inspiration to our Church School committee, be the main worship
leader of children's chapels, and a visible presence at children's and youth
events in the church and town. We would like the second minister to spearhead
youth ministry, most especially our eighth grade covenanting year and youth
group. We would love it if our next second minister had the spiritual,
administrative and even computer graphics skills to direct our two-year-old
Journeys of Faith spiritual learning program.
Someone to be a supportive and active participant in staff planning and
evaluation of worship, programming and pastoral care. We want a specialist, not
a lone ranger; a team player and colleague-in-ministry to help us inspire one
another, the parish, and the town toward making a better world.
