Curious Drawings

Artists Statement I love the art of drawing, the process of putting a pencil to paper to construct a unique image. My drawings feature unusual combinations of disparate objects, some organic and some manufactured, in compositions that play one against the other. Some subjects, like bottle caps, are consumer-designed items Ive always wanted to render. Others, like flowers and seashells, are elegant examples of natures design department that seem to sit comfortably with their industrial counterparts. Hopefully, the combinations will offer the viewer a bit of visual intrigue where none might have been expected. I work in watercolor and pencil, utilizing the watercolors translucency to convey a sense of stillness and quiet; the opaque pencil is used to add depth as well as hide my most grievous mistakes. Background in Brief Brian Cody of Ipswich, MA will be exhibiting his Curious Drawings at First Parish in Weston from September 19 until November 5, 2004.
