The audience is invited to sing along for the second repetition of the First Parish Anthem!
November 3, 2000
Ah! Hear that old piano wafting toward North Avenue.
I smell the urethane, I look around for you.
My cherished parish, coming through that door,
It's Friday evening, and no one's leaving,
Until we have asked for more.
Has your family tried the Sports Exchange? (Sports Exchange)
Has your family tried the Sports Exchange? (Sports Exchange)
Oh if your family's tried it,
They can play it, ski it, ride it,
So come on down and see the Sports Exchange.
Kids just love their sports -- that's not strange.
And keeping them in gear can cost some change.
But you can be a-raving
About the dough you're saving,
You'll find it cheap at the Exchange --
The price ain't steep at the Exchange --
You'll save a heap down to the Sports Exchange.
In our pulpit...there's Tom Wintle,
And Sue Spencer who could ask for anything more.
We've got church bells. We've got music.
We've got lots but we must ask for just a bit more.
Though we have a...sound endowment
If we spend it...we'll be poor.
We'll just have to...pull together --
All dig deeper. We must ask for quite a bit more.
We must ask for quite a bit more!
The roof above is made of many shingles
So we can praise the Lord while keeping dry.
The Lord above sends winds that take the shingles but...
With a little bit of luck
With a little bit of luck
We can win it big and not get wet!
If I were a rich man -- yada dee da dee da ya da dee da dee da dee da dum
All day long I'd trade my stock on line, til I'd made a hefty sum.
If I were a rich man -- yada dee da dee da ya da dee da dee da dee da dum
I'd give all my money to the church, then this yearly campaign would be done.
Oh we don't know what's coming to-morrow.
We'll be okay if we...borrow.
We have ended our search.
We'll just mortgage the church
Side by side.
We are the ladies forming the alliance that's benevolent.
We think that doing good is fun and all in all is time well spent.
Though others might think vice is nice and violence is prevalent,
We'd never ever do a thing that you could call malevolent.
We look for ways to help the church by doing what is relevant.
At parties we help meet the needs of each and every celebrant.
Our virtue is beyond reproach. Our truthfulness self-evident.
We'll vote for any fundraising consistent with the covenant.
We're the children of First Parish greeting you. Howdy-do!
We're the children of First Parish greeting you. Howdy-do!
We're the children of First Parish, we're the children of First Parish.
We're the children of First Parish greeting you. Howdy-do!
We are learning bible lessons every week. Amen!
We are looking out for others we can serve. Count on me!
We are making friends who matter in our lives. Hey dude!
We are praying at First Parish for the world. One world!
There is a word we cannot say!
We've got to raise some anyway!
We simply have to smile and say,
"Give now or we will have to stay!" Olé!
We know it's all about the loot.
But for that word we'll substitute.
We'll speak of gifts and then we'll scoot --
If only you will start to pay. Olé!
We won't say cash or try to bash you on the head for change
(or tell you that we're only here to get your dough).
We won't be crass and hold you up or gently rearrange
your checkbook balance or the state of your cash flow.
We will take Visa, MasterCard, American Express.
So why not just give in right now and tell us yes.
We'll leave you be! You will be free! (Until next year!)
We're coming soon let us explain.
We're after your ill-gotten gain.
Just give some now. You'll feel no pain.
Hand us some M -- O -- N -- E -- Y! Olé!
There's no parish like First Parish -- like no parish we know.
We've got buildings other folks would die for,
Ministers who pack 'em in the door,
Music that's so good that when they hear it
The folks all cheer it, and ask for more.
There's no people like our people -- they're there when you are low.
Even when there's trouble and when times get tough
We get together and that's enough
To send us right back out there and to strut our stuff--
To go on with the show.
Let's go on with the show!
